Location & Accessibility

The hospital is located opposite Dukku Army Barracks along Barracks Road in Birnin Kebbi.

Most house officers prefer flying due to distance, though road travel is possible but not smooth.

Kebbi is a relatively small town, making navigation easy.

 

Accommodation

Accommodation is available and costs ₦10,000/month.

Each person gets a private apartment (not shared).

 

Options:

- Self-contained apartment

- Apartment with separate bedroom, sitting room, kitchen, and toilet

 

Furnishing includes:

Sofa set, bed, mattress, pillows, fridge, TV with GOtv, bedside drawers, dressing table, chair, mirror, fan, AC.

 

Kitchen:

Gas cylinder, cooker, microwave, kettle, cabinets.

 

Bathroom:

Shower, sink, WC (no water heater).

 

Utilities:

Stable electricity (~20 hours daily, Band A).

 

Salary & Payment

Monthly salary: ₦306,486.42 (as of March 2026).

Paid via MDCN, usually by 3rd week of the next month.

Most house officers are paid from their first month.

 

Welfare

Call meals are provided.

 

Lifestyle

Kebbi is calm and affordable. Most places are 5–20 minutes away.

Supermarkets: Huzzmart, Sha’aban, Gwadan Gaji, Gamji.

Recreation: Azbir Arena (gym, pool, park).

Restaurants: Mystic Grills, Hibachi, Deelad Palace, Cakes Madam.

Online vendors and delivery services are widely available.

 

Work Environment

 

Surgery (Best Department)

Friendly team, strong mentorship.

Units: General Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery.

2 weeks per unit.

Calls: Weekdays 4pm–10pm; weekends 8am–10pm.

Hands-on opportunities including SPC and prostate biopsy.

House officers scrub in and do post-op reviews.

 

Paediatrics

Less supportive environment reported.

Units: EPU, SCBU, consulting room.

Responsibilities: cannulation, transfusion, chemotherapy, electrolyte correction.

Calls: Weekdays 4pm–8am; weekends 8am–8am.

Weekly case presentations.

 

Obstetrics & Gynaecology

High workload.

Postings: team rotations, labour ward, emergency.

Responsibilities: episiorrhaphy, blood procurement, drug administration.

Calls similar to paediatrics.

Frequent questioning during reviews.

 

Internal Medicine

Firms A, B, C with subspecialties plus A&E.

Calls: Weekdays 4pm–8am; weekends 8am–8am.

Ward calls end by 10pm.

Regular teaching and reviews.

 

Food & Daily Living

Hospital: Thanks Restaurant, ARD lounge.

Nearby: 2020 restaurant, street food (masa, akara, yam, potatoes).

Kiosks close by 10pm.

Delivery services available.

 

Pros:
Affordable accommodation, strong surgical exposure, stable electricity, low cost of living.

Cons:
Remote location, road access issues, some toxic departments, heavy workload in O&G and Paediatrics.
